During a marsh monitoring patrol on 3 August, we had a rare re-sighting of a terrapin. You may recall that we re-introduced this critically endangered endemic sub-species in our marsh respectively in July 2008 (15 animals) and March 2009 (5 more). Due to their shy nature and secretive life, we are not sure whether the introduction has been a success, but we do have 1 proof of successful reproduction, namely 1 immature animal found subsequently.
This species, called the “Black Mud Turtle” is well adapted to their marsh or water environment drying out completely during the dry season, which is presently the case.
